What is Helix Piercing? Helix is a piercing of the ear cartilage, which is located in the upper part of your ear.

When piercing, a piece of jewelry with a longer rivet rod is installed in a fresh piercing, because the area of the piercing usually swells – some more, some less. You must always leave enough room for swelling, because if it is not left and the swelling is greater than the length of the jewelry allows, the piercing cannot heal. This in turn creates complications.

Now, when we sleep on our side, the ear is trapped between the head and the pillow and is under constant pressure. In this ear, however, you have a fresh helix piercing with a long stud post. In order for the piercing to heal properly, the rivet rod must not be twisted in the piercing. Let’s imagine a head and a pillow and an ear between it… Now we add a long rivet post, which must not change its position in the ear.

It is simply not possible that the position of the rivet post does not change. 🙂

That’s why we emphasize, “DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS EAR”. It depends on what your piercing will look like later. A helix hole grows crooked if it is constantly crushed. First of all, it is not so aesthetic anymore, and secondly, if you want to wear a ring in the future, sleeping on the hole while it is healing can completely eliminate that possibility for you –
the piercing can grow so crooked that the ring cannot be worn in it.

The most critical time is the first 1.5 months. After this time, we ask you to visit us again to change the rivet rod to a shorter one. Then the piercing can continue to heal well, and it will be more convenient for you to deal with it on a daily basis. This is very important! You must not replace the rivets at home on your own, as the puncture has not yet healed and you can actually cause damage.
After changing the rivet rod to a shorter one, it is no longer so catastrophic if you occasionally sleep on it, but you should still avoid crushing the piercing during the entire healing period, i.e. about 6 months.

The first one (with a blue stone) in the displayed pictures is the helix piercing immediately after the piercing procedure.

The second picture (with a red stone) is when I come to change the rivet rod to a shorter one after 1.5 months.

Augustus’s position has already changed quite a lot in 1.5 months, and the stone has partially hidden under the edge of the ear. Now let’s imagine if you sleep on this ear all the time and you don’t come to change the rivet to a shorter one – the result is definitely not what you want to get when you come to get pierced.

Therefore, we would like to remind you, please listen to the piercer’s advice and if he tells you something, he does it for a reason. A properly cared for piercing will be gorgeous even many years later!
